CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  It's 9:00, so I'll call the
Board of Water Supply nominating committee meeting to
order.  We're meeting in the MCC UH Extension
conference room.  Present are board members Clark
Hashimoto and myself, Bob Takitani, Director David
Craddick, Corporation Counsel Howard Fukushima, Board
Secretary Fran Nago, and the court reporter.
Hello, Adolph.
 
MR. HELM:  Hey, Bob.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  I'm glad we got ahold of
you.  We have present here David Craddick, Howard
Fukushima, Fran, and the court reporter, and Clark
Hashimoto and myself.
 
We just called the meeting to order and we would
like to know if, Mr. Hashimoto, have you got any
nominations?
 
MR. HASHIMOTO:  Do them one at a time or --
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  For chairman.
 
MR. HASHIMOTO:  Okay.  For chairman, I nominate
Peter Rice for chairman.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  Peter Rice.  Mr. Rice has
been contacted?
 
MR. HASHIMOTO:  I believe so.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  Yes, he has.  And he has
said he would be able to serve.
 
MR. HASHIMOTO:  Okay.  And I nominate Howard
Nakamura for vice chair, and I believe he has been
contacted.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  Yes, he has been contacted
and said he's willing to serve.
I might add for the record that Mr. Cravalho
said he was unable to serve as chair.  He would
continue to serve on the board and play a role there,
but he's unable to serve as chair.
So, that being said, are we ready to -- why
don't we just have a vote of affirmation of the
slate.
 
MR. HASHIMOTO:  Okay.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  Mr. Hashimoto moves, and I
second, I guess.  So, this will be the slate that will
be submitted.
Adolph?
 
MR. HELM:  Yes.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  It was determined that you
being on a conference call would be unable to vote,
so --
 
MR. HELM:  That's not a problem, because
basically I'm in agreement with that nomination
totally.
 
MR. FUKUSHIMA:  Okay.
 
MR. HELM:  So, you know, I see no problem in
that.
 
MR. FUKUSHIMA:  Okay, great.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  So, Howard was going to add
the fact that --
 
MR. FUKUSHIMA:  Well, I was going to say that
because this is a conference call that you would be
unable to vote, but you could participate in the
meeting, and in that respect that you have
participated in expressing your approval of the slate
proposed by board member Hashimoto.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  Yes, and he has expressed
that.
Okay.  So, that would then be the slate that's
submitted to the board at the next meeting.
 
MR. HASHIMOTO:  So, will they be able to make
the nominations from the floor?
 
MR. FUKUSHIMA:  Oh, that's right.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  They are entitled to if any
board member --
 
MS. NAGO:  Mr. Cravalho said he wanted this on
the March agenda and not the February agenda.  So, it
wouldn't be the next meeting; it would be March's
meeting that this item would appear.
 
MR. FUKUSHIMA:  And I would also presume that
this is acting upon the presumption that Mr. Rice will
be confirmed by the council.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  That's why we want to have
it on the March meeting, so that it would be fully
confirmed and his participation at the board would be
confirmed by the council.
 
MR. FUKUSHIMA:  Well, he's still participating
in March.  His term doesn't end until the end of
March.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  Yes, but as far as his
officership for 2000.
 
MR. HASHIMOTO:  When will the appointments be
confirmed, the appointments for Peter Rice --
 
MR. CRADDICK:  The committee-of-the-whole
meeting met, I guess it was what, Tuesday evening, and
I believe the recommendation was made there; so then
it would go back to the full council meeting, and I
suspect it would be on the first council meeting
agenda of March.
 
MR. FUKUSHIMA:  Assuming they complete their
review of the mayor's appointees.  I don't believe --
 
MR. CRADDICK:  Yeah, they didn't complete them
all.
 
MR. FUKUSHIMA:  They didn't complete it on
Tuesday, but they intend to shortly?
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  So, the question was
asked --
 
MR. CRADDICK:  If it was on the second council
meeting on the month, that would still be ahead of our
board meeting.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  The question was asked about
nominations from the floor.  We've never had
nominations from the floor, but the assumption is if
someone would like to nominate someone, then that's --
 
MR. FUKUSHIMA:  After all, your role is just to
recommend to the board.
 
CHAIRMAN TAKITANI:  Yes.
Okay.  There being no other business, the
meeting will be adjourned at 9:08 a.m.
